​​​​P​urp​​ose​​​​​​

  • To stimulate interest in golf at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard by bringing together a group of golfers desirous of forming a golfing organization.

  • To promote and foster among the memb​ ​​ers a closer bond and fraternity for their joint and mutual benefit, and to promote and conserve the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf as embodied in its ancient and honorable traditions.

  • To encourage conformance to the USGA Rules of Golf by creating a representative authority.

  • To maintain a uniform system of handicapping as set forth in the USGA Handicap System and issue USGA Handicap Indexes to the members.

  • ​To provide an authoritative body to govern and conduct club competitions.

Gol​​​fer's Responsibilities

  • It is the golfer's responsibility to contact the golf course to see if weather conditions will prevent play for that day.  If the course is open then you are expected to show up.

  • ​It is the golfer's responsibility to notify the shipyard starter, a NNSYGA board member or the golf course if they cannot show up for an outing for any reason.​

Membersh​​​​ip C​riteria

  • M​​​embership shall be available to all persons employed by or retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retired federal employees of local commands, members of the Armed Forces (active duty or retired) assigned to the shipyard, its Tenant activities or Vendors/Contractors, their families and friends.

  • Membership shall be extended to the family (14 years of age or older) of any member in good standing.

  • Players under the age of 16 must play with a parent or guardian. 

  • There shall be at least 10 members with a maximum membership of 500. 

  • If you meet this criteria contact any of the officers, fill out a membership card and pay the $25.00 fee. Our active season, as dictated by the VSGA, is from January 1 through December 31.​

  • Reduced Green Fees at selected outings.

  • Chance to win prizes at the outings.

  • Opportunity to play a variety of golf courses throughout the season.  

  • Establishment of a United States Golf Association approved personal handicap index. 

  • Several tournaments with participation restricted to its members sponsored during the year. 

  • Outings provide an opportunity to network with coworkers and managers. 

  • More than 200 individuals become members each year. ​
